Pure technical brilliance, a well written story, and the very realistic depiction of battle tactics and weaponry of France during the Hundred Years War makes Maria the Virgin Witch an easy contender for my top five.
#4- Rolling☆Girls
I absolutely love the music of Rolling☆Girls, along with the world and the art style. The series would have place quite a bit higher, if not for the rather episodic, nonsensical plot.
#3- Saenai Heroine no Sodate-kata (Saekano)/ Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend
Saekano was not an immediate hit for me. To be honest, the first couple of episodes were kind of boring. But then the show hit it's stride. I really love the characters of Saekano, especially Kato and Utaha, which is strange for me, considering neither of them are the tsundere character. In addition, the art is just amazing, as you could expect from A-1 Pictures.
#2- Death Parade
Death Parade was my dark horse for the season. I had not seen anything to do with the series before this season, and all I had to go off of was a short description. Death Parade is first and foremost a psychological thriller drama, and it fills that genre very well. Also, the theme song is catchy as hell.
#1- Ansatsu Kyōshitsu/ Assassination Classroom
On the surface a hilarious shōnen action series (it's even serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump), but underneath has some seriously sinister undertones about many social issues.Honorable Mentions
Kantai Collection (KanColle)
The next anime in a recent trend of making mobile games into an anime with an actual story and everything. Much like Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis last season, they managed to make KanColle into a great story.Kōfuku Graffiti/ Gourmet Girl Graffiti
Oh, Shaft. They've graduated from scenery porn to food porn. Kōfuku Graffiti is a great anime if you are into the slice-of-life moe genre. Like I am. Watch Kōfuku Graffiti if you want to be hungry and turned on at the same time. Minor amounts of chiropractics included.Seiken Tsukai no World Break/ World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman
The Jake's Shit List
Isuca
How not to write characters: The Anime! Seriously, half the characters I want to punch in the face, half the characters I want to punch in the lady parts.I could not have said it better myself. |
This series is one of the very few series that I could not watch all the way through. Far, far, far too cliche.
