The Jake's Preseason: Summer 2015

#5- Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace
          Lerche

I wasn't quite sure what to expect with Ranpo Kitan, but I do enjoy mystery series, and I think I will enjoy this one. Assuming I can get over the fact that the main character is a Hideyoshi level trap.

Uhhh... Phrasing!

#4- Shimoneta to Iu Gainenga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai/ Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn't Exist

          J.C. Staff

Another one of those super long titles, Shimoneta is clearly based on a light novel series. Imagine a world where concerned mothers have everything their way and have outlawed everything not "PC" from pornography to coarse language to even the mere concept of procreative sex, deeming it all "harmful to children." That is the crapsack world of Shimoneta, which follows high school students who become 'ecchi terrorists.'

Yeah, it's that sort of series

#3- Charlotte
          P.A. Works

Charlotte looks like an interesting anime, kind of a view of a life of people who suddenly develop super powers.

As I started watching Charlotte I noticed a scene where the characters walk out of a coffee shop that serves 'Key coffee.' I immediately went, "wait a minute," and rushed to look it up. That's right, Charlotte was written by Jun Maeda of the visual novel company Key, known for such works as Kanon, Air, Clannad, and, oh yeah, just a little thing like Angel Beats!

#2- Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakeri

          A-1 Pictures

I was absolutely blown away by the first episode of Gate. I love how it didn't have the usual BS "magical creatures shrug off all bullets" plot that most of these series have. I also like that they didn't just time skip to after a treaty has been signed between Japan and the world beyond the gate.

I guess now we know what the good animators at A-1 were working on during the slump from last season. Well, this and...

#1- Working!!!
          A-1 Pictures

Back for a third season, Working!!! (with three exclamation points this time) brings back tasteful workplace comedy. I really loved the first two seasons of Working! and number three looks to pick up right where the second season left off.

Heh heh... Short people.

Honorable Mentions

Gangsta.
          Manglobe

I almost passed this series up given the strange title and synopsis. I'm glad that I didn't, however, the first episode turned out to be quite entertaining.

God Eater
          ufotable

Looking forward to the animation of this series.

Kangoku Gakuen/ Prison School
          J.C. Staff

I've read some of the manga for this one, though calling it a manga may be a stretch: it is published in an adult magazine and uses every opportunity to push the ecchi envelope.

There are so many other images that I wanted to use here, but, sadly, quite inappropriate.

The Jake's Power Rankings: Winter 2015 Post Season

#5- Junketsu no Maria/ Maria the Virgin Witch
Pure technical brilliance, a well written story, and the very realistic depiction of battle tactics and weaponry of France during the Hundred Years War makes Maria the Virgin Witch an easy contender for my top five.

#4- Rolling☆Girls

I absolutely love the music of  Rolling☆Girls, along with the world and the art style. The series would have place quite a bit higher, if not for the rather episodic, nonsensical plot.

#3- Saenai Heroine no Sodate-kata (Saekano)/ Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend

Saekano was not an immediate hit for me. To be honest, the first couple of episodes were kind of boring. But then the show hit it's stride. I really love the characters of Saekano, especially Kato and Utaha, which is strange for me, considering neither of them are the tsundere character. In addition, the art is just amazing, as you could expect from A-1 Pictures.

#2- Death Parade

Death Parade was my dark horse for the season. I had not seen anything to do with the series before this season, and all I had to go off of was a short description. Death Parade is first and foremost a psychological thriller drama, and it fills that genre very well. Also, the theme song is catchy as hell.

#1- Ansatsu Kyōshitsu/ Assassination Classroom

On the surface a hilarious shōnen action series (it's even serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump), but underneath has some seriously sinister undertones about many social issues.

Honorable Mentions

Kantai Collection (KanColle)

The next anime in a recent trend of making mobile games into an anime with an actual story and everything. Much like Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis last season, they managed to make KanColle into a great story.

Kōfuku Graffiti/ Gourmet Girl Graffiti

Oh, Shaft. They've graduated from scenery porn to food porn. Kōfuku Graffiti is a great anime if you are into the slice-of-life moe genre. Like I am. Watch Kōfuku Graffiti if you want to be hungry and turned on at the same time. Minor amounts of chiropractics included.

Seiken Tsukai no World Break/ World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman

The Jake's Shit List

Isuca

How not to write characters: The Anime! Seriously, half the characters I want to punch in the face, half the characters I want to punch in the lady parts.

I could not have said it better myself.

Juuou Mujin no Fafnir/ Unlimited Fafnir
This series is one of the very few series that I could not watch all the way through. Far, far, far too cliche.

D.K.'s Preseason Power Rankings: Spring 2015

Spring 2015 is already looking like the Juggernaut that will destroy whatever scant free time the Otaku Saga writers have left; and we will be all the better for it. I've never seen a single season of anime look this good before...

Aria's Preseason Power Rankings: Spring '15

This was so darn hard to limit down to even these 10 being my top picks for the season. There are so many good series coming out this season that it's pretty close to overwhelming. Let's get to it and tackle this mass of lovely series!

The Jake's Preseason: Spring 2015

In a season with more than thirty series that I am going to watch, I decided to list a top ten rather than a top five. Goodbye free time, amirite?
